Here are a few practical ideas from CVC Staff and Elders on fleeing from sin as we continue in our “Light in Chaos” summer study from the book of 1 John.
- Parent your phone! My kids go down at 8:30 PM. You should put your phone to bed then also. “But it’s my alarm clock!” you say? Buy an alarm clock. (John Mark Comer)
- Create a budget where generosity is first. If generosity to God isn’t first, it will be last. (Generous Life – Brenda Leisinger)
- Create a daily schedule where sleep and morning time with God are priorities. How many times does that extra “The Office” episode at night or extra video game cause us to be tempted the next day? (Josh Stone)
- Singles – Write out a boundary list of what you will and will not do on a date.
- Removing Social Media platforms from my life because I was posting in pride. (Ashley Faltot)
- Put a specific Bible verse on my lock screen if I’m struggling in that particular area. (Nancy Beach)
- For me, one thing has been leaving Social Media so that I’m not able to see highlight reels of others’ lives and fall into a pattern of comparison/envy/dissatisfaction with what the Lord has given me. (Becca Ferguson)
- No computer, phone, or TV in the bedroom. (Rick Duncan)
- Never open an account where my wife does not have password and access. (Ted Chase)
