The Discipleship Pathway
Spiritual growth rarely happens by accident. At Cuyahoga Valley Church, we want to help people move intentionally toward deeper life in Christ. Our Discipleship Pathway provides a simple framework for how people grow from first attending a worship service to becoming disciple-makers who help others follow Jesus.
Each step represents a deeper level of participation in the life, community, and mission of the church.
Attend
Participate in Sunday Worship Gatherings
The first step in the discipleship journey is simply showing up. Through weekly worship gatherings, people encounter God through Scripture, worship, prayer, and the teaching of His Word. For many, attending is the first step toward exploring faith and discovering the hope of the gospel; for believers, it is a vital rhythm that strengthens faith, shapes spiritual growth, and encourages deeper involvement in the life of the church.
Connect
Begin Forming Relationships Through Accessible Environments
Faith was never meant to be lived in isolation. Connect environments are designed to help people move from simply attending a service to building meaningful relationships within the church through welcoming, low-barrier opportunities. In these spaces, people begin to know others, share life together, and experience the reality that following Jesus is a journey we take in community. Connection is often the bridge that leads to deeper involvement and turns a crowd into a community.
Belong
Commit to Church Membership and LifeGroup Community
The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone. God calls His people into a spiritual family where they can grow, serve, and follow Jesus together. Belonging means committing to the local church through membership and participating in a LifeGroup, where relationships deepen, faith is strengthened, and discipleship becomes more intentional. Through these connections, people move from simply attending church to becoming active members of the church family.
Serve
Regularly Serve in the Ministry of the Church
Every follower of Jesus has been given gifts, abilities, and experiences to use for the good of the church and the advancement of God’s mission. Serving moves disciples from simply receiving ministry to actively participating in it, using their unique gifts to strengthen the church, build relationships, and help others grow. As believers serve, they discover the joy of joining God’s work and are reminded that the church is not just a place we attend—it is a mission we share.
Give
Faithfully and Consistently Invest Financial Resources into God’s Mission
Generosity is a defining mark of a transformed heart and an act of worship that reflects trust in God and commitment to His mission. As followers of Jesus grow in faith, they learn to steward their resources in ways that honor God, support the work of the gospel, care for those in need, and advance Christ’s mission locally and around the world. Through giving, believers participate in God’s kingdom work and align their hearts more closely with His priorities.
Go
Participate in the Mission of God Locally and Globally
Jesus calls His followers to carry the gospel beyond the church walls and into the world. Whether serving with local outreach partners, supporting regional ministry in Appalachia, or reaching people around the globe, believers are invited to join God’s mission of making Christ known. Going expands our vision beyond ourselves and reminds us that the gospel is for everyone.
Multiply
Reproduce Disciples, Leaders, and Communities
The goal of discipleship is not simply personal growth—it is multiplication. Jesus’ final command was to make disciples who would make more disciples, and as believers mature in their faith, they begin intentionally investing in others, helping them follow Jesus and take their own next steps along the discipleship pathway. Multiplication happens when Christians mentor younger believers, leaders develop new leaders, LifeGroups multiply, and new ministries and churches are launched to reach more people.
