Giving at Cuyahoga Valley Church

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Matthew 6:21

At CVC we want to passionately pursue the equipping of our communities to become faithful, fruitful disciples who are abiding in Christ, serving the Lord according to their gifts, and committed to sharing the love and message of Jesus. A vision of this magnitude requires each of us to be fully committed and invested in order to make this a reality. One of the ways we honor God is by wisely stewarding (managing) all that He entrusts to us for the accomplishing of His purposes. This is lived out by giving freely and sacrificially of our time, talents, and treasure to God and to others, without expecting anything in return.

Thank you for investing in God’s Kingdom, your generosity is helping us invite more people to new life in Christ!

Frequently Asked Questions

A LOT! In fact, there there are 2,350 verses in the Bible about money and possessions, 16 of Jesus’ 38 parables are about how to handle money and possessions, nearly 25% of Jesus’ words in the New Testament deal with biblical stewardship, and 1 out of 6 verses in Matthew, Mark and Luke relate to money and possessions.

To sum it all up, the Bible emphasizes the importance of giving as a reflection of our faith and stewardship, encouraging us to manage our resources wisely and generously in accordance with God’s teachings.

The following four biblical truths are the foundation upon which we teach and model stewardship and generosity to others.

  1. God owns everything and needs nothing.
  2. We own nothing and need everything.
  3. God is the sole provider of all resources.
  4. God uses stewards to manage his resources.

Pray! Ask God how you should manage the resources He has given you. How much you give is between you and God, but the key is to give regularly, generously, and cheerfully. Why? The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:7 that “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Giving is part of God’s design for Christ followers, and it is one of the ways we worship Him.

In Old Testament times, God’s people were commanded to contribute at least a tenth of their income to God’s work. Although the New Testament is not as explicit about the tithe, Jesus endorses the tithe (Matthew 23:23). Today, many spiritual leaders consider the tithe to be a guideline goal for every believer.
