Cuyahoga Valley Church’s National Day of Prayer Guide

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom He has chosen as His heritage. Psalm 33:12

In 2025, God has called us as a church to “deepen our prayerfulness” as a way to express our passion of “God Dependence.” This prayer guide has been produced to encourage you to pray regularly for our nation, especially on the National Day of Prayer – Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Praise – All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. For kingship belongs to the LORD, and He rules over the nations. Psalm 22:27-28

  • Praise the LORD that He is King over America — that no matter our national struggles and disunity, God’s rule is sure, His throne is unshaken, and His purposes for our nation will stand.
  • Praise God that He has preserved a remnant of true believers in our nation who remember Him, who turn to Him, and who worship Him.

Repent – Yet even now, declares the LORD, return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love… Joel 2:12-13

  • Confess how we have strayed far away from the LORD, in thought, word, and deed. Confess how the Church has strayed. Confess how our government, educators, business leaders, and entertainers have strayed. Ask God to help us repent as a people.
  • Confess how we have not been broken about the rebellion in our land and in our own lives. Ask God to break our hearts so that we might fully return to Him.

Ask – May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face to shine upon us, that Your way may be known on earth, Your saving power among all nations. Psalm 67:1-2

  • Pray that God – even though we deserve His judgment – would pour out His grace and blessing upon our nation – that He would make His face shine on us so that He could use the USA to reflect His glory to the world.
  • Pray that our nation would experience God’s saving power – that we might turn from our wicked ways, that He would forgive our sin, that He would heal our land, that we might experience a national revival.

Yield – God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:6-8

  • Ask God that we would surrender our compromises with evil — actively resisting the devil’s schemes in our homes, churches, communities, and government, standing firm in truth and righteousness.
  • Ask God that we would surrender our self-reliance — depending fully on God’s power and grace for every need, believing that true healing, revival, and hope for our nation come only through Him.
