We know that music is very subjective and can even be divisive. These songs, however, are scripture…word-for-word. So, if you listen consistently, your family will be memorizing Bible verses before you know it.

Our favorite Bible storybook for preschoolers is The Beginner’s Bible, but if you find yourself looking for something a bit simpler for your toddler, the Read and Share Toddler Bible is our recommendation.

DARKEST NIGHT BRIGHTEST DAY: A FAMILY DEVOTIONAL FOR THE EASTER SEASON

In Darkest Night Brightest Day: A Family Devotional for the Easter Season, Marty Machowski combines the accounts given in all four gospels to walk us through Holy Week and beyond.  This picture book devotional gives seven days’ worth of readings, questions, and illustrations from Palm Sunday to the Saturday after Jesus died.  These first seven devotions are the “darkest night” portion of the book.  At the midway point, you physically flip the book around and upside down to read about the “brightest day.”  There are seven more devotions, beginning on Easter, that recount some of the events that occurred in the days after Jesus rose from the dead, including things like Thomas’ encounter with Jesus and the arrival of the Holy Spirit.  The book is a storytelling format with some Scripture quotations.  Scripture references from all four Gospels are included at the start of each day.  Although this book is meant to be read aloud by an adult to the entire family, we recommend it for use with mid-to-older elementary children because the retellings were a bit long and used more advanced language.  You can purchase Darkest Night Brightest Day: A Family Devotional for the Easter Season at New Growth Press, Christianbook, or Amazon.

If your family is like mine, they love rocks! Some are shaped like hearts, and some have sparkles, and some are smooth as butter.  Patti Rokus loves rocks, too, and she created a unique picture book in which she used rocks to form all the illustrations.  The text is comprised of simple phrases or verses, with Bible references included.  He is Risen: Rocks Tell the Story of Easter is perfect to pore over during Holy Week or anytime of the year.  Check out her Christmas book in the same format. It’s wonderful, too!
