It Matters What You Believe: We all believe something. No matter which term you prefer to use, everyone holds fast to some faith in some thing for some reason. Ask a lot of people what their thoughts are and you’ll most likely hear them preface or conclude their opinion with, “Well as long as you’re sincere in what you believe, that’s all that matters.” Well…why does sincerity matter?

Money is Not the Root of All Evil: Money is the root of all evil. It has a good ring to it, and if we’re honest, a lot of evil things happen because people want money. Is it actually money’s fault though? What is the good saying underneath of this bad one? God Helps Those Who Help Themselves: God helps those who help themselves. Even though that phrase doesn’t appear in the Bible, studies show that over 80% of people are still led to believe that it’s in there. Is the idea true though? Scripture says that we are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, but then reminds us to take care of the widows, the poor, and the orphans among us.

Dangerous Advice: Just follow your heart. We love to toss that phrase around and encourage our friends as they make difficult decisions. But have you ever stopped to consider where the desires and passions of your heart come from? If Scripture tells us that the heart is wicked and deceitful, is that really the compass direction we should follow?

God Will Give You More than You can Handle: We’ve all been there – you have a moment or season, or maybe you are in the midst of them now, where you have felt hurt, discouraged, overwhelmed and in over your head. And, inevitably, someone with good intentions will say to us, “Don’t worry, God won’t give you more than you can handle.” Maybe even you were the one saying it! The phrase is meant to comfort and encourage, but there is one problem – it is not true.
